An excellent mention. Bonecrusher graduated from James Sprunt Community College in Kenansville, North Carolina, with an Associate Degree in Business Administration, in 1973. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1975. He took up boxing after entering the Army following his graduation from Shaw, and eventually became the first college graduate to win a share of the heavyweight title.

With an academic background like his, it should go without saying that he was able to manage his money well.

As big as he is, he was able to maintain excellent physical conditioning for much of his career, a manifestation of the discipline required to earn a four year degree. Studies have shown that those most likely to stick to a fitness regimen are those who have also been able to complete more advanced schooling. His subsequent stint in the military probably helped to augment this trait. At 230 pounds, he displayed no trace of body fat or loose flesh. Unlike many power punchers, he could take out opponents late, as he aptly demonstrated with his sustained final round barrage against Frank Bruno, and his last second stunning of a peak Tyson.

 

Johnson always found a way to live comfortably one way or another. The revenue from his patents must have provided some income.
