I suppose but I just view a belt as a title claim and anyone with a serious title claim he ha defeated.

true plus there are different definitions ie title claimants, top 5, former titlists, hot opponents, its a very ambiguous term.

    Highlighted by sonny liston really.

Hagler in the 80`s. Won the unified title, then kept it by beating everyone ...

Herol Graham ??? He couldn`t carry Marvin`s spit bucket . Nunn, wrong time. And its sinful to even mention his name alongside MMH !

Regardless, the point is everone seems to have missed at least one name.

The best indicator in my opion is draw up a top ten of the fighters era and see how many they defeated.

By my reckoning jack Johnson did an amazing job.

James Toney early 90's at middeweight. Beat all the greats in a space of 2 years including Nunn, Johnson and McCallum.

    Wlad?

Toney didn't face Jackson or Eubank or Benn.

Johansson crapped his pants at the thought of facing Liston.

    Liston KO 1 Johansson

Herol Graham wasn't a leading contender for Hagler's title until the final year of Hagler's reign. A few guys were coming through - Graham, Barkley etc. But Hagler was preparing to fight Ray Leonard.
Hagler is about as close as it gets, but no one really cleans out a division. You could beat the top 10 over and over, they'd always be someone coming through when you finish up.
