Roy Jones is a freak, he relied on his natural ability too, thats why he lost as soon as his reflexes started to fade.. Floyd is an ok one to study, just remember hes a gym rat and has been in the game since he was born.. Just remember, hes got some natural talent too, but I think more of his stuff has to do with experience and work.
aha very original and exactly what you should do in the ring sadly he wasnt as naturally talented as others.
exactly,i cant copy roy jones or floyd cuz i lack their speed and reacion time, whereas don curry seems to have a really text book style, ive only seen a few of his fights though so i might be wrong
It's obviously handy to watch the greats fight, but I find watching amateur bouts incredibly useful, even if they're fairly average. It's a different kind of fighting and it helps to watch someone where you can think to yourself what they're doing wrong and what they could improve on. People underestimate that - watch the olympics.
Who's defensive guard and stance is the best to study? My defence needs serious improvement because I can't employ a good guard. I think my reflexes are pretty quick but tbh trying some Roy Jones or Sweet Pea **** is out of the question because I find it difficult to read punches and react quick enough.
Well I'm only 5'7" and around 130lb, though my weight tends to vary a bit. In terms of style I'm pretty aggressive and rely on my hand speed, jab and ability to switch hit.
I tell you what it is with my defence, it's just when I'm fighting I tend to forget about tucking my elbows in when employing my guard, about shoulder rolling, about bobbing and weaving and slipping punches and try and just duck or cover up instead. I just need a way of focusing myself and remember all that when I start fighting. I think it's mainly to do with needing to improve my reactions and also I need to improve how I read upon punches. Any advice on how to do so lol? EDIT: I don't think it's really my reactions, I just did a reaction test and the average was 0.2 lol. I think it's just a case of concentration which is no problem if I take it seriously, and also of being able to read when my opponent is throwing different punches. I guess that and then immediately reacting in the right way to avoid those punches just comes down to practice.
