What are some of your favorite fights or in your opinion the best displays from boxers who were against fighters who could end the fight with one cleanly landed punch or combo and had to fight an almost flawless fight. The opponent doesn't have to be a complete KO artist per say, but maybe just a fighter with a lot of power and a boxer who is vulnerable. These are some of my favorite types of fights, because it shows the true skilled involved in some pure boxers because one mistake and you're out. You can sometimes see the focus and concentration every minute of every round from the boxers as the fight goes on trying to avoid that one shot. Some Examples: Bernard Hopkins vs Pascal Andre Ward vs Abraham Mayweather vs Corrales Juan Manuel Maquez vs Pacquiao III On the other end of this spectrum, we'll find boxers who were fighting the perfect fight and then, the unevitable happened: Julian Jackson vs Herol Grahman Julian Jackson vs Terry Norris [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC6ActjJrvQ[/ame] Feel free to add more
I'd say Martinez vs Pavlik. Hopkins vs Tito and Pavlik are personal favourites. Winky Wright vs Shane Mosley (though the punchers aspect is negated due to size) Barerra vs Hamed was amazing.
Winky Wright over Tito -- that was an absolute clinic. B-hop over Pavlik. Paul Williams over Margarito at 147. Williams exchanged more than the other two, but he had 0% chance of KOing Margo while Margo was definitely capable of KOing Williams. He did a good job of keeping Margo at range.
I will always remember my dad's comments after the fight. During the post fight interview he said "look at that guy. He doesn't even look like he was in a fight." There wasn't a single mark on Winky.
Never watched a single fight with my old man. Unless your name is Thomas Hearns, then you aren't beating Winky at 154 for me. He lost something at MW, but he did beat Taylor no matter what the network and Boxing establishment tried to pull
I'm very confident that Whitaker could have done the exact same thing if he wasn't fresh out of rehab by the time Trinidad finally fought him. Sad to watch :verysad
My dad is a big fight fan, and was pretty young when I was born (21). I grew up watching fights with him and his friends. What was really cool was when I got into high school and my dad and his friends were in their 30s. We watched tons of fights in the 90s, barbequeing and having a few beers.
I still haven't even watched that fight. I don't like watching shot versions of my favorite fighters just get dominated or outclassed. I haven't watched Chavez vs Tyszu either
Dempsey vs. Tunney set the bar for this type of fight, I think. It showed how good and dangerous both men were in opposite areas. A great styles match.
