Church says "Amen to this! ( If you're not atheist) Especially when considering the " Trainer" is usually pushing the pads into the punch, to give the puncher the perception of being fast.
It's nothing more than a coordinated dance really.
In the old days, the trainer would simply turn the wrist randomly, with the puncher having to use the punch that works best for the situation, also the trainer would throw out counters.
Now it's just show boat, nothing of value but looks great to novices of the sport.
The novices go on social media and marvel about how " sharp" fighter "A" looked hitting the pads.
And all of their followers regurgitate the same nonsense.

Good grief you’re absolutely wrong, suppose Goldman did them with Marciano to get a bit of “Look at me”? It is however a commonly misused or misunderstood tool.

Great trainers, truly great ones have used them before and not without reasons

Maybe the great trainers know something you don’t?

for a guy who knows nothing youre very snarky, if you watch a rocky marciano fight and say to yourself “man all that pad work really paid off” then youre better off watching the great british baking show

lol If you’re doing pads right your education is there as well - it is where you work on things… no doubt Goldman was from the old school he’d watch Marciano hit the bag, shadow box, spar and in all those places he’d teach from the corner, from the side etc.
Pads aren’t an exception to the rule a good teacher administers lessons everywhere it isn’t for “look at me” or “for show” that is just undeniably wrong, though I agree it can be and often is today.

anything inoptimal charley goldman could recognize would be better ironed out in sparring than on pads

Heavybag will wreck the shoulders, Tyson has had shoulder surgery(ies?) and when I used to do the Cus heavybag workouts I ended up with frozen shoulder I still can't reach far enough back to do squats without severe pain basically when the muscles heal some of the fibers essentially form calluses and mess with the nerves, I would also bruise my knuckles so bad sometimes even with lots of wrap and 16oz gloves that I couldn't hit the bag again for close to a week nevermind if I accidentally landed with the wrong knuckles, hitting with maximum speed and power and lethal intentions has its consequences

And of course Frazier ended up with fairly severe eye damage from a poorly set up speed bag

Goldman used boxing gloves the wrong way around and later had his own pads for Rocky.

The only trainer I am aware of who disses pad work is Don Turner, but then he disses just about everything.
Modern fighters like Mayweather and Ward would be six rounds boys back in his day,cut men are a con, and an uneccessary expense etc.
Futch ,Roach ,and Steward, used pads extensively, that's good enough for me.

Tyson used custom 300 lb Cus bring to him, but his bones were not as tough as Marciano's who workes with bags like that and had huge forearms.

    Marciano's forearms were 12 inches,Tyson's 14 inches.
Tyson's forearms were as big as Marciano's biceps

Bones and muscles are not the same.

There are videos of Marciano punching heavy bags 280 lbs and throwing rocks, his forearms and grip strenght were stronger than Tyson's.
Marciano had that farmer/construction strenght while Tyson had more bodybuilder type of strenght.
That's why Marciano was tougher man than Tyson.

You said Marciano had massive forearms,he didn't. Twelve inch forearms are not massive by any stretch of the imagination.
    END OF ,
You have no idea if Marciano was stronger than Tyson.
