Seemed Frankie Gomez was on the verge of a big payday, had all the tools, then disappeared. I can understand why someone would just randomly quit, even after being a beast for years.
Whatever happened to the Russian fighter 'Kid Diamond' Raimkulov? The name is in my head right now. Superstar in the gym apparently but dissappointing on fight nights.
Someone once posted a pick of Frankie working as a car mechanic or something. Looked fat and happy. Boxing probably wasn't for him and it's pretty admirable that he walked away like that. Wish we had an interview. Thw Russian heavyweight Plechko dissappeared some years ago. Promising prospect with like 12 wins, all via first round KO. I heard he got some business ventures going thanks to his short career and that was that. He made his choice it seems.
He probably would have been battered by the first real opponent anyway. Dude was swinging like a mad man, waiting to be countered. So all in all this might be the ideal path for him. I wish him all the best.
I wondered for years what happened to Frenkel. Apparently he developed schizophrenia and battered some guy up. Ended up in a mental institute. Sad story. If someone told me the night he brutally stopped Enzo that one of the two wouldnt fight again I wouldnt have been surprised
Bojado, Ricardo Williams and cant remember his name he was a undefeated prospect that was on the Roy Jones vs Gonzalez undercard.
Rubio never disappeared he was already in tons of wars for years and retired when he faced ggg I think.
frenkel heavy KO of maccarenelli was another Oh dear Oh dear where does he go from here? lol the sort you get from pricey fights recently
Is that true about Frenkel? I heard he retired due to depression but that just might be the sanitized version. Weird how nobody within the boxing community ever mentions his name, even those he worked with. I've wanted to see someone aske Kalle about it because he would know. Edit: Just found this on Twitter This content is protected Hopefully it's this interview https://player.fm/series/boxing-life-stories/ep-21-kalle-sauerland
Jesus, that's horrible, like Serge said below, I'd heard he had mental problems, but I had no idea they'd progressed that far. That's a real pity.
