    and had successful careers?

i was watching henry cooper footage, and seen quite a few fights and he never seems to through a right hand, and this gave ali quite big problems in their meeting which really shocked me!

can anyone think of many others who managed to use this kind of style well?

Not a famous fighter I know, but here I go again drumming up interest in the guy to your left. His name was Charley(Zivic)Affif, and he was in and around the top ten in the 40's. Due to a serious childhood accident he had a plate in his right arm and that elbow only bent about six inches. Obviously this meant he had no long right cross, used it on the inside where he had to be to cut off the other guy's reach and score. I know probably no one on this forum knows of him, though I do wonder about some of the guys that post here and might have been around the game in those days. (John Garfield, McGrain?)

In fact, that's why happened onto this forum in the first place; I've been trying to locate any films, footage of any of his fights. He fought guys like Dauthuille and Vinnie Rossano and Herbie Kronwitz and ONeill Bell. Freddie Archer, fought alot in Pittsburgh, some in NYC and Chicago, Miami, New Orleans, Milwaukee... Any help would really be appreciated.

Though I was around at that time, Ck -- practically lived at St. Nich's and the Garden -- embarrassed to say Charley Zivic's name doesn't ring a bell, especially since he fought such quality opposition.

You wouldn't know it from his record but Herbie Kronowitz could really bang -- a tough tough guy.

Thanks for responding John. Kronowitz was a big win for my dad at the Garden. He broke his hand, his right fortunately in the second round and went on the take the decision. He fought Sonny Horne and Vinnie Rossano, and also Gene Hairston too at St. Nick's, may have had a couple other matches at the Brooklyn arena. But don't apologize for not knowing him. The trail does seem to be getting awfully cold. His been dead for almost twenty-five years, and let's be honest I'm just a middle aged guy who misses his dad. But thanks for given it some thought.

Two guys you might wanna check with, Ck, are Lou Duva and Angelo Dundee. Both were around the NY fight scene at the time, headquartered outta Stillman's Gym.

When they hear you're Zivic's son, I'm sure they'll talk to you.

    Wish you luck.

Thanks John. My Dad trained out of Stillman's when he was in New York. I know he knew Angelo and pretty sure his brother Chris may have promoted a fight or two of his. Thanks again. I'm enjoying the forum. Not the boxing expert that alot of the posters here are, but it's interesting and I'm learning alot.

Ernie Terrell. He achieved victory mostly with that long left hand followed by holding and clutching. He was pretty good at it, by the way.

Joey Archer and John Conteh come to mind. Both were one-armed bandits with their jabs and hooks. Pinklon Thomas as well. Some might suggest Gerry Cooney.

Can anybody name boxers who fought primarily with the right hand out of an orthodox position?
