Boxers who got too distracted outside of the ring?

    Who can you name who succumbed to alcohol, substance abuse , weight gain and womanising specifically during their careers? Obviously as a top athlete this is certainly going to effect your ability to perform within your capabilities who were the worst offenders?

    Muhammad Ali apathetic towards training over ate and was promiscuous especially before losing to Ken Norton in the first fight.

    Mike Tyson alcohol and drugs, physical assaults in press conferences on the streets etc. His activities before Buster Douglas could certainly be attributed to his loss.

    Tommy Morrison overindulged with alcohol , took steroids and contracted HIV as a result of his sexual activities. Drinking the night before the Bentt bout.

    Leon Spinks alcohol and drugs specifically during his preparation for Ali rematch.

    Roberto Duran got distracted with partying and food, alcohol and it really cost him against Hearns.

    Mike Tyson just wasnt into much after prison.

    Morrison with steroids, alcohol, women and drugs.

    `Ray Leonard has his drug problems in the 80s if not we probably would have seen him in the ring a few more times at least.

    Cooney did cocaine the night he kod Norton at the party after which basically destroyed his career.

    James Tony got lazy and just wanted to eat the last half of his career, sparring is not enough conditioning is a must.

    Pinklon Thomas, heroin.

    Larry Holmes, food in his later career. If he hadn't ballooned up 30lbs over his prime, he'd probably have won his fight with Nielsen and became the oldest HW champ ever at age 48. Would have been a great cap to his career.

    As a Mancunian, Ricky Hatton springs to mind. He fought a great fight against Tszyu. But then even though he achieved alot following this, some of his performances were stodgy. He used to balloon up a couple of stone between each fight, then train it off again. They were great nights staying up for the Mayweather fight etc. But I do think his habits outside the ring between fights cost him more great performances like Tszyu.

    Great fight? Have we seen the same match? He could’ve been DQd every other round, the ref should’ve been slapped same with the entire screwy crew who helped steal Kostya’s belt.

    Nicolino supposedly smoked between rounds. He wasn’t one to run or do a lot of anything but spar in a similar vein as Toney from what I have read.
