Barbados Joe Walcott had his purse witheld after he retired against Frank Childs in their fight for the coloured heavyweight title. Walcott had been winning up to that point and it was seen as suspicious. He claimed a broken arm.

Back in the day, mere suspicion that a fight was not on the level waqs enough.

Hilmer Kenty won the first round decisively against Roberto Elizondo, then quit following round two. When interviewed following the cessation of proceedings, the lanky Kenty said he didn't know if it was something he ate, or some other sort of medical problem, but that he was suddenly weak, bereft of any strength necessary to continue. Elizondo, in that inimitably high mouse squeak voice of his, expressed the opinion that his body blows were responsible for Hilmer's abrupt enervation, and Roberto was indeed known to be one of the most committed body punching specialists of his era. Kenty showed a lot of guts in absorbing a frightful body beating from O'Grady while afflicted with walking pneumonia, so it was extremely odd and unexpected to see him concede such a critical bout so readily.

Ringside eyewitness Jersey Joe Walcott was the presiding commissioner, and he immediately withheld Kenty's purse, telling Tim Ryan of CBS that he'd never seen anything quite like this in all his years of involvement with boxing.

Whatever the truth was, Kenty's career as a marquee television attraction was over. Elizondo was his second defeat, and his only loss via stoppage. He would close out his career by going 7-0 over the next year and a half, beating future champion Freddie Pendleton along the way, but hang the gloves up just after turning 29, and become one of boxing's few success stories in retirement.

I seem to recall Bert Cooper against Foreman in 1989.

Tyson had $3million of his $30million purse held when he got disqualified for biting Holy.

    Pretty lax really.

'Oakland' Bill Smith lost his purse for scarpering from the ring after Archie Moore dropped him.

Apparently Smith calmly stepped out of the ring, then sprinted as fast as he could out of the place. And lost his purse.
