Boxers who have lost a fight due to negative tactics

    BHop V Calzaghe
    Dirrell V Froch
    Degale V Groves

    All these three probably scored the better shots throughout the bout but all lost mainly due to negative tactics not impressing the judges. Give me more examples of this.

    I actually scored the Groves/Degale bout in favour of Groves but couldnt be bothered to watch it again cause i was bored the first time round. I scored the BHop Calzaghe bout in favour of Calzaghe on the night but when i scored it the next day properly I had BHop ahead. I had Dirrell winning by 1 point both times i watched.

    I thought Clottey threw away the fight against Cotto in the championship rounds.

    And I agree on Dirrell against Froch. The negative approach he applied early on, lost him too many rounds. It was only later on when he found out he could hurt and trouble Froch, that he began getting the better of him. If he had more confidence (something he lacked due to a bit of inexperience), then I think the fight would have been his.

    clottey and mosley vs pac
    I thought haye lost to valuev as well by being on his bike too much.
    Maybe whitaker vs Oscar pea should have clowned a little less and let his hands go more then he would have gotten the decision.
    Also pascal vs hopkins 1 he should have been more active to get some rounds in his favour after round 4

    Clearly the superior boxer but a bit too negative.

    I thought Pea lost the first Ramirez fight and drew with Chavez due to inept/corrupt judges. He completely out-boxed both guys and landed plenty of punches in the process.

    He should have won both I agree, i'm just saying with the other guys constantly pressing maybe he was too much on the back foot. Personally I don't have him losing a fight up until trindad.

    When someone is that defensive and clowns I think judges get annoyed.

    McCloskey-Khan is an obvious one.

    Seems he was so content in making Khan miss that he forgot to do the other parts.

    Unless a shot really wobbles a fighter it can be really hard to determine what was 'effective' so I generally find myself unintentionally reflecting the punch stats when it comes to my personal winners.

    DeGale and Hopkins didnt score the better shots throughout. They may have landed some good shots but not throughout, Dirrell was outhustled. The right fighters won in all of the fights you note

    This. How can you be effective if you're not stopping the other guy after all? Sure, your punches look better, but looking better isn't what's supposed to score points in the ring after all.
