What fighters had big wins and great performances in their mid-30s, say after turning 33, without bad losses or struggles against lesser opponents? I ask because a bunch of posters have offered Golovkin and Kovalev's underwhelming performances in their mid-30s as proof that both men were always overhyped. A bit confusing to me, since very, very few boxers seem to still perform well at that age. Who makes the list?
Ray Robinson managed to beat Bobo Olsen when he was around 35 and near this victory beat Gene Fullmer.
Lennox Lewis went 8-1-1 after the age of 33. Vitali Klitchko 13-0 Wlad Klitschko Wlad 12-2 Archie Moore fought forever after turning 33, which may or may not have been in 1949, including winning the light heavyweight championship.
Thulane Maligna won a title after the age of 40. Larry Holmes was one round away (a round that was scored 10-8, against McCall, that was probably only deserving of a 10-9) from winning the title at 45.
Malinga wan`t even that good in his prime and McCall was awful also, the Holmes fight was laughed at in Britain when it took place in the 90`s.
lol, doesn't change the fact they succeeded well into their 40's. But to be fair, the question was the ages 33-36, so maybe I misspoke here.
