I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but Sugar Ray Robinson vs Ralph Tiger Jones.

Golata lost TWICE to Bowe. The best he could hope for in a series of 10 is 8/10.

Not to take anything away from Jones, especially not his career best win, but I recently watched and scored this fight for the first time and had it a draw 4-4-2 in rounds. The main factor in the way I saw it may have a lot to do with degradation of film compared to what a judge at ringside saw, but I just didn't think Tiger threw enough punches, especially with how tired Ray was over the last few rounds. Anyway, that was my take on it.

Good call. Eddie wouldn't have been ambushed like that a second time. Nine times out of ten though? Ingo was pretty sneaky, he did key some wins with his jab, and produced a couple of 13th round stoppages. Machen wins a series, but not quite that dominantly.

However, now I'll throw in another pairing inspired by your suggestion.

I've said many times that Liston beat Eddie only because Machen's right was injured, citing Eddie's right handed body shot knockout of Nino Valdes as proof of how severely hampered that gun was against Sonny. Give both of them two good arms and no significant injuries (like the injured left Liston had for Patterson II and Clay I), and I believe Machen would be too quick, abrupt, tough and unpredictable for Sonny to either decision or knock out.

Joey Maxim avenged a first round knockout against Hatchetman Sheppard within the month. In a day and age when frequently repeating rivals might actually square off nearly ten times (and Charles did have Maxim's number five times out of five), I don't think Hatchetman ever catches Joey like that again. Curtis Sheppard did not win decisions over opponents at Maxim's level.

Emile Griffith lost a ton of non-title fights vs no name opponents
