I would say Joan Guzman. I thought he was the goods, had a decent career but not a great, not a contemporary great or an atg. Yours?
David Haye Odlanier Solis Murat Gassiev (Inactivity) George Groves (I think he would have done more if he stuck with Adam Booth)
Frankie Gavin remember his come.up in the amateurs he looked like he could be something special but was too lazy and didn't have the heart
Yuriokis Gamboa Chad Dawson Jermain Taylor All of those guys were champions obviously, but I thought at one time that all would become PfP fighters and it just didn't happen.
I thought that the "Hispanic Causing Panic" Juan Lazcano was going to be better than he was. He beat a lot of good fighters but I thought he would be a pretty good world champion. He never quite pulled that off.
Amir Khan. From Kotelnik to Lamont Peterson fight he looked to be an offensive machine with ATG level athleticism and his fundamentals seemed elite too….seemed like he put his shaky chin behind him, especially after coming out on top of a tough fight with Maidana….. Then he fought stupid against Garcia after the robbery in DC, and the descent only accelerated from there.. I still believe he was elite during that stretch, I think he legitimately got worse - moreso than being “exposed”. Hindsight is 20/20 and people love to hate on him now, but there was a period where it was hard to see anyone at 140 beating him….
I agree man, he was so fast and aggressive. I watched him through my fingers though because you never knew when he could get rocked to his socks.
There’s a few but this one really stands out for me. Still as you said, a bit soon but unlikely he’ll fight again, much less at a high level. Hector Tanajara is another one. I always thought he would fight at a more competitive level.
Ashley Theopane. Funny one to add but I thought he had some talent at one point. Then there's Adrien Broner. Also, even though he had a brilliant career I think Mikey Garcia didn't achieve what he should have. If he was around at lightweight today he could have achieved big things.
Dean Francis, injury curtailed his career, it's a shame because the hype was beginning to build for a fight between him and Calzaghe. Michael Brodie, loved his wars with In Jin Chi and Neil Swain thought he'd win a major world title he was good enough but his all action style cost him in the end, his prime ended in the Chi fight and he was never the same. Malik Scott. I thought he'd be a decent contender, thought he'd beat Chisora but he never had the belief in himself, basically quit vs Chisora by staying down, took the dive vs Wilder and even against Ortiz, when he actually mounted any offense he had success but just fought scared and was happy to not get KO'ed, never dared to try to win.
