Boxers who permanently effected their oppenents

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by FreeRadricDavis, Dec 8, 2015.

  1. What are some boxers whose fights with greats affected the greats negatively?

Example: Ruslan Provodnikov, even when he loses, seems to get the better of his oppenent and his oppenent is rarely the same the next fight after (Matthysee comes to mind, Bradley coming out after publicly talking about the concussions, peeing blood)

    Thanks!

Modern day times, Rigondeaux's win over Donaire comes to mind.

Past times, Spinks' win over Ali. Leonard's win over Duran. Braddock's win over Baer.

  3. Yea, Rigo really ****ed off Arum by wrecking Nonito.

Duran had a great career after no mas. But I see what you're saying

The Duran situation is a very strange one. I think what happened is Leonard took that aura of invinsiiblity away from his confidence, and this showed when he went up against the big names.

  8. I wasn't alive when that fight happened (only 21, kinda newish boxing fan) was asking my uncle about it recently and he said that would be the equivalent of 09 Pacman quitting against FMJ if they fought back then.

Pretty much everyone who Tyson beat during his reign never came all of the way back except for Bruno, who he would ruin the second time. The guy who he didn't fight (spoon) was still relevant in the mid 90s.

Hagler wrecked a few...Marciano, as already mentioned.

Not in a physical way, but in terms of aura, Douglas burst the Tyson bubble...as (I believe it was) Eddie Futch said "it's like the elastic in your socks - once it's gone, you can never get it back".
