Considering mallinaggi s distinct lack of power yet how far he went.hes got to be classed a pure boxer.imagine if he had ko power.not the greatest but hes got to be noted
He wasn't reliant on it as he was a brilliant infighter, but he did lots of clinching as well. Julio Cesar Chavez also a brilliant infighter, did less clinching than Roberto Duran, in fact Chavez didn't do much clinching. Rather than clinch, he angled his head to his opponents shoulder and worked on the inside. Purely speaking without using illegal tactics, Chavez was a better pure infighter than Duran.
I don't rate either as great pure boxers, but nobody has mentioned either Felix Trinidad or Oscar Delahoya. Neither used clinching. Rather than the clinch, DLH more used his legs to as a stalling tactic.
Yes very skillful poetry in motion.I also rated duke McKenzie a brilliant technical boxer and a champ at three weights.his fight with gabby c was textbook.
Out of the fab 4, Duran was the fighter who did more clinching. Hearns before the first Leonard fight didn't know how to clinch. When he'd get stunned, he'd lean on the ropes and cover up. Because he was getting stunned and wobbled frequently, Emmanuel Steward then worked with him to clinch when he was hurt. Hearns employed those clinching methods a lot after that first Leonard fight, but unlike Mayweather or Hopkins, Hearns at least only used such tactics when he was hurt.
