I like the way you spew the word ''fact'' at the end of your rants as if they are actually facts.

You do realise that when Lewis was due to fight Michael Grant he was mentioning retirement, don't you? Lewis was accused of overlooking Grant who was seathing at the indignation of it all. He was talking about fighting Tyson and how it would be a benchmark moment and a reason to think about retirement. Then, after he beat Tyson he did say that retirement was possibility.

Lewis didn't retire "days" after he beat Vitali either. I've no idea where you've pulled that one from. Perhaps you forget how people accused Lewis of holding the belt hostage for so long. He beat Vitali in June 03 and retired in what, Jan / Feb 04??

We'd all like to have seen a rematch, but those who have the slightest bit of objectivity about them don't really have a problem with Lewis bowing out when he did - especially seen as he'd just turned Vitali's face into mulch. Actually, beating Vitali was the perfect way for him to end his career.

Lennox Lewis retired at the right time. He has wins over the best fighter of the era to come before him (Holyfield) and the best to come after him (Vitali). Whatever the outcome of that fight with Vitali, it was the right time.

I think guys like Calzaghe and Hamed needed a couple more fights to really silence the critics. Joe could have beaten a prime slick American fighter, and Hamed could have had a couple more wins against decent belt holders.

DLH was a bit late, having not been able to secure a Mayweather rematch, he should have retired.

For every fighter that got out at the right, there's about 20 who didn't.

Lewis however did not give a mention that his fight with Kirk Johnson or his replacement Vitali, would be his last.

Vitali on two weeks notice was taking the rounds of Lewis that he was ahead on the scorecards.

It is the circumstances in which Lewis dropped out of boxing which leads many of us to believe he did not go out in a blaze of glory.
Lets be real here. The Staples center crowd was shouting Vitali's name as the the announcer announced Lewis the winner.

Than fans were left wanting to see a conclusion, Lennox Lewis decided that winning under the cirmcumstances that he did was good enough for him.
Anybody with any brains would conclude that if Lewis was confident he could beat Vitali, there would have been a rematch.
It would have been a big money PPV match to, and Lewis only had those vs Holyfield and Tyson.
He walked away from alot of money not wanting to get his ass kicked.

Lewis dominated Vitali towards the end and had Vitali clinging on to Lennox like Titanic style.


Nobody give a **** what 'Lewis promised' Lennox promise a lot of things.

Lewis was 90% high for that match and ate himself into a horrendous 260 pound whale shape.

I will not take anything Lennox says seriously at that time. Lewis was huffing and puffing by the end of the first minute. It's either a testimony to Lennox's greatness or to Vitali's utter shitness that he didn't even get koed in Round 1.


It's depressing for VItali fans though, that Vitali cared so much for that fight he trained all his LIFE for it, Lewis didn't even know which 'Klitscko' he was fighting.

 

But Lewis did beat Vitali. He has the 'w' and how he got it matter less at that stage in his career (the very end) I don't care what the crowd though, Vitali was injured badly enough by Lewis's punches that the fight had to be stopped. Not a clean win, but a win none the less.
