I been living in the states for 12 years and i don't mind Americans calling themselves Irish if they actually know where their parents/grandparents came from. What pisses me off are the idiots who have a name that sounds remotely Irish and who claim to be Irish yet have no idea when their ancestors came to America or what part they came from.

    So Oleg Maskaev is American?

Oh, and the Judahs really are descendent from an African Jewish tribe. It's not like he's claiming that he's African.

    I dont hate Americans.

David Bowie is scared of them though.

I think this issue re: Irish Americans/Identity is one of semantics. America has such a rich tapestry of cultures that they will commonly refer to themselves as African-American, Irish-American, Hispanic-American etc etc.

Over here in Blighty it's judged by what Passport you hold. Hence why if you have an American Passport but your parents are both Irish, we would still consider you to be American. There is a large Asian (India/Pakistan/Bangladesh rather than China/Japan etc) community in Britain with a lot of Asian kids born and bred here in the UK. I know several and they refer to themselves as being British. To use a Boxer take Amir Khan as an example. Of course their heritage is from elsewhere but they are British by virtue of being born and brought up here.

You ****ing putz, Black Jews are a REAL religious group. He's not claiming it to be controversial or for a ring persona. That's the way he & his brothers were brought up. I'm pretty sure Yoel's also a Black Jew.

No federal taxes, only state taxes. Other than that, nothing different from a 17th century colony.

Duing the obligatory service period a lot of puertorricans died in ww1 and 2 korea and vietnam, sent by a president and congress none of us get to chose.

BTW I'm pro american pro statehood for PR

An example of what I said above.

I'm quarter Irish, based on Grandparents being from the Republic, if someone asks what I am, I state I'm English. Although proud of my heritage and interested in it, I have never been to Ireland, was born and bred in Manchester, England.

I think one aspect of why Irish americans are so quick to idetify themselves as Irish may be because there used to be a large amount of anti-catholic\irish sentiment in the u.s. Therefore the pride their parents had in standing up to that is passed down through the generations.

Bottom line, true Americans are the Indian folk. Then, the next Americans were the first settlers from Europe, which consisted of the Dutch, English, German and Polish.
