I know AJ started around 18, Deontay Wilder in his 20s, Ray Mercer, Rocky Marciano all started pretty late and did very well.

Any other examples of boxers starting their career late and being successful at it?

I remember Jeff Fenech started pretty late. Would need to google his age though.

Tony Thompson started boxing at 27.

A good friend of mine (highly athletic guy) began intensive boxing training at 37. He's now 40, and still reckons he's not ready for a pro fight yet.

Lucas Browne became a world champion by beating Chagaev, and his first pro fight was when he was nearly 30

Audley Harrison started at 20. But then he wasn’t that successful in the pros. But did win Olympic medal. Joe Joyce started at 19 to lose weight

Larry Holmes started at 19. I never would have though that he stated that late considering he is considered one the most fundamentally solid heavyweights.

Chris Algieri started boxing at 18/19.

But he's been about successful as he would have been if he started boxing as a young teenager. Got his payday fights in his mid 30's after 14 years in the sport as opposed to in his late 20's.

I think Adonis Stevenson turned pro at 27 years old because of his earlier past troubles in his life.

Is late teens the cut off for what is considered "starting late"? Cause Manny started boxing at like 14 then went pro like two years after, he started his pro career early but he like jumped into it not too long after picking up the gloves compared to someone that's been boxing since they were either in diapers or under the age of 10. Really though now that I'm in my late 20s it feels weird seeing people say 18 or so is late now. I feel MMA has more late bloomers or people that picked up the sport in their mid 20s like Ngannou.

Usyk didn't apparently start boxing until 15? Which is weird, I'd figure he'd be one of those come out of the womb with boxing gloves type of fighter.
