Doh !!! of course Noel, plus one of the fighters is my all time fav that being Napoles.
Back in the 70s I worked in Smithfield ( the meat market, soon to close after 100s of years ) we started work at 4am, and would normally finish around midday, so that afforded me the afternoon to do what I wanted, as I was boxing crazy in them days there was nothing I liked better than to visit a gym, or sometimes a pub/gym, and watch fighters workout, and my favourite the sparing, in my time I have seen the best of british, Bruno, Rowe, Charles, Magri, Honeygan ( see I don't hold a grudge ) Batten, Gardner, and many more besides, leading up to his challenge to Napoles , I was lucky enough to see Stracey workout and spar, here's the thing, he was the most intriguing, as I have said in previous posts Conteh was the most vicious, he truly hurt his partners, despite his handsome looks, and charming scouse manner, he was a brute when sparring, unlike Stracey who was fairly contained, somewhat pedestrian, and sort of needed to be stung before he would get serious, he liked to use smaller fighters to go for speed, then he would switch to LMW or even LHW, it was there he done his more strenuous work, for the first couple of rounds he was prepared to feint, throw light jabs, and not put anything of note behind his punches, BUT if said partner fancied himself, or thought John wasnt all he was cracked up to be and got carried away, Stracey was mercless, he would track down and back up the biggest of LHWs, his pace and power would crank up, they would regret their impedance, hard and well placed punches would be sunk deep into their midsection, right crosess, thrown with 75% of his power, would turn their head guards sideways, I have seen him drop much bigger fighters than himself, he was/is an underrated puncher in my eyes, would liked to see how he would have got on with Ralph Charles, another dour tough puncher, you know I have Jones beating him in a torrid tussle, but nonetheless, a very good WW, and a thoroughly nice man to boot, have spoke to him on several boxing functions over the decades, and he is always polite and courteous.
Thats it Noel, a nice trip down memory lane, thanks to you.

The ol' Mexican styled pro career where you have something like 40-60 fights when the time you're in your mid 20's and you're just fighting whoever they can find with a decent record half the time... Probably with little actual game planning because you're fighting so often against a variety of styles... you're bound to lose a few with that kind of activity. Makes Ruben's undefeated run all the more impressive.

Eusebio Pedroza always seemed to be playing
on the opponents playground back in the day.
Also Archie Moore did as well.

Usyk is a two weight undisputed world champion having never had a world title fight ‘at home’. Guy is so damned respected though, he gets a solid reception everywhere.
