Canada Lee got a lot of props for his acting back in the day and afterward. He gets my vote as the greatest legit actor who came out of a boxing background. Read the biography by Mona Z. Smith, "Becoming Something: The Story of Canada Lee".

So did Freddie Steele for his performance as shell-shocked Sergeant Warnicki in the 1945 film "The Story of G.I. Joe." He went on to get quite a few bit parts in Hollywood, and even moved there for a while until his first marriage fell apart.
