Joe Frazier and Larry Holmes, among others, had short (and not terribly lucrative) side gigs as musicians. Michael Grant played the piano and Roberto Duran the bongos.

But that’s not what this is all about. This exercise will be music to your ears.

We’ve done threads on boxers who were fish, vegetables, birds, cheeses and colors, among others. Now it’s time for a sidetrack. Which boxers by name could be bands, or at least musicians.

Here are a few to start us off:

Grand Master Flash (Elorde) and the Furious Five

    Dave Boy Green Day

    Peter, Paul Williams & Mary

    Lionel Guns and Roses

Derrick Jefferson Airplane (later changed last name to Starship)

    Sugar Ray Lynyrd Skynyrd

    Philip Billie Holliday

    Anthony The Go-Go’s

    Pink Floyd Mayweather

    James “Bonecrusher” Aerosmith

Jimmy Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young

    Simon and Garfunkel Brown

    The Julian Jackson Five

    Bobby Darrin Van Horn

    Buddy Holly McGirt

    Tupac Shakur Stevenson

    Who else can sing along?

    “Boy George Foreman” :lol::lol:

Anyone: “Do you really want to hurt me?

George: “Hurt you? I want to kill you!”

That’s Young Boy George Foreman, of course.:D
