Prairies are teeming with life. As is boxing. And sometimes they collide. We’ve done fish and birds and colors as well as vegetables and cheeses. I think perhaps one or two more. But what about boxers who were prairie animals, those indigenous to the grasslands and plains in temperate regions? Here’s a few who came to mind: Floyd Patterson was dubbed ‘The Rabbit’ by Muhammad Ali and was even photographed with an armful of carrots once as he leaned into it. Speaking of which, there’s Bunny Johnson, a Brit who fought at light heavyweight and sometimes as a small heavyweight. I’d also nominate Jimmy Heair who is a phonetic qualifier for this category given his name is pronounced like ‘hare.’ But let’s get away from those wascally wabbits. Coyotes live in some prairies/planes regions, so why not give Lateef Kayode a pass? We also can’t forget Billy Fox (and Redd Foxx, the comedian and actor, managed fighters including Gonzalo Montellano and Fred ‘Young Sanford’ Houpe, a heavyweight hopeful). The final one to come to mind is Bruce “The Mouse” Strauss, a prolific and colorful mostly loser who barnstormed across the country in the 1970s and ‘80s. Who else belongs to this fistic prairie critter club?
The Ingalls family were a type of “critters” who resided on a Prairie. Therefore: - Miguel Lora “Ingalls” At an absolute stretch... ...Deontay “Ingalls” Wilder Alright, I have no shame, Charles “Sonny” Ingalls
