He may have. I was'nt impressed by either fighter that night.
When I watched it the night of, I thought Chavez had an off night and was'nt sharp as he usually is.
Whitaker's subsequent fights proved me wrong. He's just an elusive defensive minded first fighter that would have made any offensive machine in history look ordinary.

....but because of Whitaker's defensive first mentallity in my mind his pitter pats never even stopped fighters like Chavez, DLH, and even Azumah Nelson in their tracks.
Whitakers punch connects were taps. There was'nt nothing effective about them.
.....and the thing is we know Whitaker could pop if he wanted to. He took a few opponents out while loading up for single shots.
He had pop in his punches if and when he wanted to use it, he just found it to risky to do so against better caliber opposition.
Just a big turn off as for as me scoring rounds for him when he's not being and effective puncher enough to deter an opponents foward progress.

To give an example of what I mean, Except for 2 rounds in their fight Chavez never stopped his hard press foward toward Whitaker.
Chavez was never dettered from attempting to walk straight through Whitaker.

To give another example, Marquez vs Pacquiao, Marquez had Pacquiao at bay and reluctant to come in with his hard shots.
Marquez not only nulllified Pacquiao's offense, but he himself had an effective offense of his own repeatedly snapping Pacquiao's head back and forcing him to stop his advances.

Eubank made all opponents miss more punches than they ever had. His reflexes were sublime - and they were more on timing and reaction than pure speed. Eubank did have fast hands, though, and quick feet.

I'm tired of these dumbasses listing Toney as a slow boxer with an elite defense. Look at the combination starting at 1:46 seconds. That's a slow boxer? Yeah he looked slow against Roy Jones, but he was weight drained and that was against Roy Jones.
