...to come up against the very best version of their opposition. Even more so when their opposition was very much elite level.

Deigo Corrales against Floyd Mayweather was the first one that came to mind. I also think Mike Tyson against Evander Holyfield probably fits the bill, while Evander Holyfield against Riddick Bowe would fit the bill in turn.

I'll think of a de la Hoya one...Mosley, Mosley is a good call.

EDIT: Now I've re-read this, I might not have quite got it. Do you mean, a boxer who ended up facing their opposition at its best every time.

Like Mosley for instance, fought the best Oscar, the best Forrest, the best Wright, the best Cotto and a close to best Mayweather.

Or Tyson, fought a best Douglas, a best Holyfield, a best Tyson, a best Williams :)lol:)

    Good examples so far. :good

Basically, a boxer who came up against the very best version of their opponent. In hindsight, everything fell into place for the opponent, the opponent was close to unbeatable/not going to lose that night.

Boxer A comes up against Boxer B (unfortunately the very best version of Boxer B).

(Hope that makes it easier to understand...I'm confusing myself now.)

 No worries man, I was going into it a bit too much but yeah I think the ones I said fit the bill.

I mean there was no way Diego Corrales was going to win against Floyd Mayweather that night, there was no way Shane Mosley was going to beat Forrest (1) that night etc.

The one that fought James Toney or Bernard Hopkins I think. He was never going to be beaten those nights by Toney or Hopkins(didn't he beat Hopkins with a fracture of some sort?)

Those are the two big standout names, but then again at light-heavyweight guys like Clinton Woods, Glenn Kelly and David Telesco were never going to beat him either  Got to go with one of the two versions of Jones that fought Hopkins or Toney though, great fighters who did not stand a chance or come close to win against an athletic machine.

Yeah, good example...I forgot about that one. There was no chance Margarito was going to lose that night. Certainly his best/peak performance. Cotto landed some great, powerful shots on him...which lead to the Mosley KO in my opinion.

Yeah, I was looking more towards the versions that beat both Hopkins and Toney. I'd probably lean towards the one that beat Toney. In hindsight anyway.

That version of Pacquiao is definitely arguably his peak. The version that beat Cotto is also a good shout.

Margo would have been a great fighter to watch if the 15 round rule was reinstated, he would have some exceptional names on his resume as he had adequate stamina and chin to hold onto the end.

Another one that would be suitable for the thread is THE HAWK against Alexis arguello 1.

There is not one light welterweight i would take to beat pryor that night, none that come to mind anyway.

    Juan Diaz vs Freitas.

wow what a fight, i managed to catch that on eurosport and was shocked at that result, i think he was only twenty one at the time and put in an exceptional performance against a very good fighter.

Sometimes i wonder what happened to him, all that ability gone to waste.
