So we just had Ryan Garcia beating Devin Haney despite being 3lbs over the weight limit last weekend. What were some other examples of fights that still went on and the overweight fighter ends up winning the fight?

Jose Luis Castillo vs Diego Corrales II. Castillo came in heavy, and, blew Chico out in the rematch.

Mayweather against Marquez is the best recent example, fitting that he was the one who told Ryan not to make weight.

Orlando Salido was 2 1/4 pounds over the limit vs. Lomachenko I believe. He was also 11 pounds heavier on fight night.

Luis Nery comes to mind - in a rematch against Shinsuke Yamanaka. Japanese Boxing Commision gave him a lifetime ban for it - which was recently lifted so that He can fight Inoue.
Adrien Broner missed weight against Escobedo - and Shakur Stevenson against Robson Conceicao not long ago.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it feels like it used to be less common? Maybe because fighters were not cutting quite as much weight - so the margin of error was bigger?

Benny Lynch forfeited his flyweight title on the scales when he came in at a whopping 118 1/2 to Jackie Jurich's 110 1/2. He stopped Jurich in the 12th but went home without the title.

If the booze hadn't gotten him, Benny may have gone on to have a claim as the GOAT at Fly.

DeJesus over Duran, fighting at 138 lbs and 137 1/2 lbs respectively.

So a Non Title fight, Durans LW belt not on the line.

However, no shenanigans, coming in over was agreed beforehand between the two fighters, I believe.

So probably a bad example (lol) because weight wasn’t actually “missed”.

James Toney vs. Francesco Dell'Aquila. Non-mandatory title defense for Toney, so when he came in overweight (3/4 of a pound I think) there wasn't much pressure on him. Either they call off the fight, or they let him fight weighing over the middleweight limit.

The Italian promoters and Dell'Aquila's camp let the fight go on, and the Italian got slaughtered.

I’m pretty sure Toney had a few fights canceled later in his career because he couldn’t make heavyweight.
