I agree. Because of certain styles people see boxers use in the ring people immediately assume that would make them good street fighters. Not at all.

Check out this if you haven't seen it, on probably one of the best street fighters of all time. And his style was described as dirty and boring, lots of clinching and spoiling, however he was tough as hell outside of the ring.

Tyson probably hit TOO hard with too much accuracy and snap to be able to use it on the street and come out as top dog. As evidenced by the Mitch Green incident, that's just too much for the unwrapped hand to take.
Tyson was a remarkable athletic specimen.
    That's where people get confused.

    Yeah, Wiggins was tough.

That makes sense, the strong durable guys who hold and foul and spoil a bit in the ring make better street fighters generally.

I think Tex Cobb would beat Tyson in a street fight, but Tyson would outclass him in the ring.

Billy Conn was a good street fighter apparently. He grew up in a family of street fighters.

He didn't have a great punch in the ring or a ultra-violent style. He won most of his fights on points.

I think I read a story about him fighting a robber who stuck a shop he was shopping. The thing was he was 72.

Here it is http://www.nytimes.com/1990/01/12/sports/billy-conn-72-takes-on-robber.html not very long

Might be a stupid question, but you've seen the Galento Nova fight? Or have you just read about it? Supposedly it was one of the dirtiest fights of all times.

Mitch Green was too "street thugish" to make it big. He pulled a gun on Shannon Briggs once. And a few years ago he won some shitty trinket belt and he was saying that he was the "true champ of the world."

A swollen eye and a cut up the top of his nose leading slightly across the head that clearly shows stitches. Green often carried a gun and pulled a gun on Shannon Briggs once. Green like most street thugz, hid behind his precious gun and got his reputation based on that. Green could fight yes but he was a typical thug. Pulling a gun on a bunch of people will get you a fearsome reputation. Today Green is known for 2 things, getting beaten by Tyson in a ring and on a street.
Tyson did run after the punch but that was the smart thing to do. Only a dumb ass would stay and fight. Green would have pulled a knife or something.

    No, prime for prime.
I have no idea how a 60-year-old Cobb is doing.
And Tyson almost has me convinced he's turned pacifist now.

Stanley Ketchel was a legendary bar fighter by the time he was 15. I live here in butte, Montana, where he had more than 40 of his fights, and where he worked as a bouncer in what were considered, at the time, some of the hardest dives in the US. To this day, you can find yourself one hell of a bar fight. It is kind of a local thing.
Billy Conn was once asked if he was a good street fighter. He replied that he had had thousands of fights in alleys before working his way up to the streets.
i think that, once the prospect of violence raised it's head, it would be one unfortunate individual that found himself in conflict with Jack Dempsey.
From what I have read the Quarry brothers, Jerry in particular, had skills in this area. And Tony lopez did ok as well.

Michael Moorer maybe he is a southpaw so a livershot could be his specialty.

Yeah but Moorer doesn't have the mental makeup to be considered for this thread. He had a below average chin and got discouraged really easily, not to mention lazy...this all coming from a Moorer fan.
