I mean the person who created the thread literally brought up Charlo being overrated...

Look at Deontay Wilder for example, he had ten title defences and he was a borderline fraud to some extent. Don't get me started on the likes of Adrien Broner, Lawrence Okolie and many others.

    Wilder.

Could he hit very hard? Yes.

Should he be in GOAT conversations around HW power, talked about as if he could KO anyone, etc? No.

Look, as I said already, there's no question he hit hard - there's also no question he was super protected and largely fed a procession of hopeless bums that were hand-picked for highlight reel KO's, the strategy for manufacturing Wilder was all around power (and understandably as it was always his best attribute)...
The problem is, you can't really judge someone's power when they're fighting primarily opponents handpicked to be ripe for hitting with full-force, highly telegraphed "bombz" - that tells you little more than a punching machine does.

Could he have knocked out legit ATG's? No... There's no evidence he could even knock out contenders (albeit there isn't much of an argument from silence, either, as he only fought 3, across 5 fights).

If you gave most above average powered heavies that procession of bums they'd have looked just as devastating, if not more - Joshua's KO of pretty durable Ngannou was more impressive than any Wilder KO, Povetkins KO of Whyte showed skill, speed and IQ as well as power on a different level to Wilder.

Good power, but if you want overrated - you'll be going some to beat the Wilder hype.

Sonny Liston? So, by your estimation, a guy that stops almost 4 out of 5 of his opponents throughout his career has over exaggerated power?

Dunno about his power, but he has the GOAT name: Qudratillo Xabibullo Ogli Abduqaxorov

Shavers. No savage KO’s of anyone with a pulse. He was great at KOing Glass Jawed bums.

Absolutely every fighter ever, including himself in Tony Bellew's actual pronunciation of the word.

Yeah undisputed is no mean feat, and he had power, just now the soul destroying Wilder level, one punch power you think from his fans but he could thump.

In recent times I would go with Berlanga with his streak of first round KO’s against club fighters.

Wilder had a piston jab vs Arreola tho... It looked like he went easy on Arreola after the 4th round too.

It would've been nice to see how he fared against Povetkin, but we know why that fight crumbled.

Joshua - Wilder is still the fight to make for both guys imo.

Lol.....a thread full of a bunch of out of shape kids who can't win a mind fight claiming that world class fighters and/or world champions power is over hyped.......lol.

Easy to say when you never have and will never take a punch from the individuals you are claiming have pillow hands.

As an individual who's sparred with Thurman for a few rounds pre Porter fight, I can attest that he is a LEGIT puncher. I was much bigger than he before he went into camp and I felt the power that he throws with his slick punches. In sparring he actually has this short sharp lead hook to the body that I don't think I've ever seen him throw in a bout.
