am -7.5, have no trouble with boxings, letters and a fist coming towards you (although they found in an experiment my reflexes are 33-36% faster than the upper end of the average person ) is completely different, i still fail a pro medical
my eye sight isn't great. I narrowly passed the visual exam that's part of the medical. to be honest I think the doctor was making it a bit easy on me.
Light middleweight David Reid had more than his share of eye issues. This content is protected After the loss where he dropped his WBA title to Felix Trinidad, Reid was diagnosed with a detached retina. He also had an earlier problem that caused his left eyelid to droop caused in a fight with Daniel Santos at the Pan American Games. Did pretty well for a guy who could barely see.
I had to get a minimum of 6 letters correct out of 12 and I just managed to get the 6. I have no issues with things close up but sometimes I can have difficulty with things far away like the number of a bus. I don't think it ever effected me in fights.. (but I can always use it as an excuse for my poor performances :yep)
How in the world can you see anything with that prescription its the same as mine witth out lenses or glasses the worlds a complete blur
Larry Holmes had bad bad eyes, fought with contacts for the most part of his latter career (from the early 90s onwards). He once lost 1 contact lense during a round and was unable to see, his trainer had to remove the other lense in between rounds then so he could continue. James Toney has to wear glasses.
Who on earth would tell that this man once was the youngest world champion in boxing history ? That he was among the greatest technician ever seen in a ring ? It pains me to see him like that ...
Frank bruno ( was operated in bogotha ) , their used to be a blind boxer in the 1920,s but i cannot recall his name.
Julian Jackson had terrible eyesight and used to wear glasses like the bottoms of coke bottles. He would probably be considered legally blind.
Short sightedness affects how you can make out details like letters etc. It doesn't effect your sense of 3D placement, movement or distance, and so I don't think it would hinder a boxing career unduly. However your sense of 3 dimensions would be disturbed if one eye was significantly worse than the other. The slightest nudge can displace a contact lens in the eye so it would not be a good idea to wear them in the ring.
