No doubt that Emanuel Augustus has some very unusual movements. So unusual he is probably more notable as a goofy fighter than a person with good footwork. He is a very good person to study to learn the art of movement. When I use to watch him I remember he turned on the goofy style around the fourth round. I forgot but I'm not sure if he was doing it to stall his opponent or to confuse him. Before he got popular a lot of the opponents had no idea how to fight him when he was doing that stuff. And referree/judges did not tolerate his professionalism in the ring. At times Emanuel Augustus won a fight but the officials gave it to the opponent.....

Ali and mayweather etc are not good to copy because they're so naturally talented.

I'd say Miguel Cotto has excellent footwork; cuts off the ring very well agaisnt fighters who are much quicker than him, and used great footwork and movement to outjab the taller, longer and faster Moseley. :good

There's no one answer to this question. If you want to emulate a fighters footwork, you have to pick a fighter whose style is at least close to yours. What's your fighting style like?

Let's not confuse good footwork with flashy footwork. Emmanuel Augustus' footwork is crap. All style... no substance.

Some current fighters with very correct footwork:

    Juan Carlos Gomez
    Guillermo Jones
    Bernard Hopkins
    Joe Calzaghe
    Mikkel Kessler
    Cory Spinks
    Verno Phillips
    Daniel Santos
    Paul Malignaggi
    Joan Guzman
    Chris John
    Nonito Donaire
    Ivan Calderon

Footwork is very underrated in boxing training, yet it's crucial; it all ties to footwork one way or another.

I am not sure it's possible to teach yourself Hopkins' footwork. I would look to learn from Kessler and then graduate onto a master like Juan Manuel Marquez.

He does have a very entertaining style, pity the judges weren't in favor of it.

Marquez got a tiny issue with his footwork. Much of it is excellent but he had major problems tracking down Chris John who kept moving away to Marquez' left.

JMM, with an emphasis on leaning on the front foot instead of keeping his balance more centered, had trouble stepping to the left to cut off John while on the attack.
