Do boxers wear contact lenses when they fight? Just a question that came into my head today. If so is there bot a risk of them becoming dislodged during the fight?
Ye raushee ****** wears em. I remember oe fell out in his olympic fight. Seems dangerous tbh. Must be some super soft ones. I have some soft ones i use sometimes, they are really flexible and soft but they can be quite irritating at times.
Most countries won't licence boxers who cannot pass a vision test unaided and wearing contact lenses in a fight in is not accepted. My contact lens always fall out when I spar and get hit in the eye so it's very annoying
Overnight Vision correction is a way round this: http://igolenses.co.uk/What-are-iGO-OVC-contact-lenses-and-how-do-they-work.html
Any fighter in a boxing ring wearing contact lenses, should not be in the ring. If they can't see a f*cking thing, then how can you expect them to see punches? ....and on that revelation I've just found out why Audley Harrison is ****. He is blind! Our very own Stevie Wonder!
Joe Frazier was one. I also read another known heavyweight during a title match against maybe Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield attributes part of his loss to losing a contact lens. For the life of me, I can't remember who it was. I wear contacts. I compete in amateur. I typically remove them in sparring because they do get knocked out frequently - maybe 1 in 5 sessions. I always removed them prior to competing. But the golden glove rules said we could wear contacts so I did wear them in this year's tournament. It's a judgement call. My eyesight's bad, but good enough to see my opponent if i lose one (or both). I perform the same with or without. I just hate losing them, cuz they ain't cheap.
I recall Frank Bruno had eye surgery to correct shortsight when he was young. I would have thought contact lenses would be risky for a boxer though it seems that some sanctioning bodies approve of them.
Is it different rules for eyesight in the amateurs and pro's? I remember seeing a few months ago a boxer had to get laser eye surgury before he turned pro
Would be a bit mad for a boxer to enter the ring with contacts in. If a glove (in particular a thumb) knocked the eye, your contact lense would get knocked out of place so you'd have blurred vision.. which isn't exactly ideal when the guy in front of you is trying to knock your head off.
unless you pass an eye exam performed by a doctor without the aid of contacts you cannot pass the medical to qualify for amateur boxing in ireland, and im shocked to see some posters have boxed with them in before maybe they are unlicensed shows or something
i know a lad who couldnt get his medical passed, got laser surgery on his bad eye and then got his medical
