Does having your dad as a trainer considered to be more of an advantage or disadvantage? Eg...Calzaghe retired undefeated with enzo, Trinidad was catapulted towards success in the welterweight and light middleweight division by tito sr, not quite in the middleweight division since it wasnt tito's natural weightclass Zab and Yoel enjoyed success together before zab chose another person for the job, mosley and his dad had a fallout as well.. and many more other examples that i cant think of at the moment.. thoughts?:think
Tyson Fury was trained by his dad, until Sr got thrown in jail for gouging out some guy's eye. - Then, after Manny Steward gave up on him, Tyson's uncle took over. I guess they decided to keep it in the family. Hopefully, they won't make the same mistake with Huey. That's a lot of raw talent to waste.
A man can tolerate his dad more than the next man, out of respect. The dad has the moral license to beat his kid from a young age to maintain discipline and developed respect. Timothy Bradley's dad looks like he slapped some discipline into his kid who was known to beat up wheelchair kids. Roy Jones Jr's dad made his son fight with both hands tied behind his back, you wont expect trainers to do this, but a father can get away with such training methods.
tend to respect their dads and listen more due to discipline. dads know which buttons to push and know their sons enough to get the best out of them.
Sometimes it works great: the Trinidad's, the Calzaghe's, Angel and Danny Garcia, Eduardo Garcia with Robert and Mikey, etc. Sometimes it leads to great results for a period: e.g. the Mosley's. But usually it doesn't work out, and it often ends in a major meltdown: e.g. Roy Jones.
floyd mayweather felix trinidad danny garcia shane mosley fernando vargas tony ayala just a few that come to mind that have had success.
