As per descriptions and nick, The Human Windmill, Harry Greb was always in high gear.

From the available vision, old Scrap Iron Johnson had one gear, albeit a lower gear - plenty of torque, just kept coming. A sort of prime Joe Frazier on Valium.

Joe Frazier was the absolute first name that came to mind, high gear all the way - okay, maybe took 1-2 rounds to shift into top gear but there he stayed - normally smoking is a bad sign for an engine - but it was a good sign in Joe’s case.

I was surprised it took several posts before Joe got a shout.

Smoking Joe Frazier, March 4 1968 TKO 11 of Buster Mathis for the 5 state World Heavyweight Title. Mathis could be heard asking the referee to make Frazier step back.

Marvin Johnson - all out without pace in mind and keep punching until the other guy falls or he himself falls.

From the little I have read over 5 decades, Burley seems to have had only 1 gear, for almost all of the 50 years I was under the impression that he was a combination of Napoles and Leonard ( Benny) a flawless boxer who glided around the ring, throwing exquizit combination's, a master box/fighter that more than a few champs avoided, it has only been a few years or so that I have come to realise through extensive article that he was nothing of the sort ( sacrolidge I know ) in fact he was quite the reverse, his " style " was formulated upon hit and not be hit, so in evidence that would translate to, not getting involved in punch ups, keeping a respectable distance, and 1 shot your opponent, once again ( from what I have read ) not for Burley the combos, the infighting, the standing and trading, 1 punch hard and accurate, wait patiently for the opening, no matter how long the wait, its folklore and the stories are legion about the great champs that stood clear of him, that might well be true, but it wasn't just that he was a very good fighter, it was twinned with, he wasn't exciting, fans didn't flock, and a fighter like Robinson wasn't going to risk his title for a lowly purse, so I am going to posit Burley as a fighter with one gear.
All that remains is to batten down the hatches, on with the tin hat, and await the barrage.......
    stay safe guys.
