What are some boxers who were either on the precipice of becoming stars or were stars who had massive downfalls?
Apart from the obvious ones like RJJ, Hamed. Livingstone Bramble was considered a top 5 P4P fighter, after beating Crawley, Mancini x2. He then fights Rosario gets blown away in 2 rounds, then pretty much turns into a journeyman type fighter losing over 20 fights.
In the ring, Riddick Bowe went off a cliff as far as his prime goes. Seemed like he was suddenly done by the time he fought Golota. Michael Grant was being groomed as a future star it seemed. That fell apart quickly as well after consecutive losses to Lewis and McCline Out of the ring: Ike Ibeabuchi
Saad Muhammad went from being on the verge of a unification fight to getting kod by Eric Winbush in the span of 15 months, He was washed up at 28
Yep. HBO was done with Grant for good after Dominick Guinn knocked him out though IIRC. Come to think of it, Guinn himself had quite the downfall. He was 24-0 heading into the Monte Barrett fight, and ended his career at 38-13-1. Not that it would have changed the eventual outcome, but the punch Lewis KO'd Grant with was CLEARLY a foul. Lewis held him behind the head and drilled him with an uppercut. It was blantantly obvious, but I guess the ref, commission, and whoever else was overseeing the fight chose to turn a blind eye to it.
Ya I get the Brambles and Hameds , Nunns of the boxing world ,, but RJJ , hes on a completely different level than the other names being mentioned here .. RJJ was much more than a flash in the pan .... he was dominate and didnt lose for 14 years .. I mean p4p he's a top 30 guy easy !! ... the others top 100 ? probably not ... RJJ dosent belong in this conversation at all .. hes 2 - 3 tiers above the rest
