In the past, it was all about Tyson, Prince Naseem Hamed (at least in the UK), Bruno :yep, Nigel Benn, Arturo Gatti, you had Henry Maske and Axel Schulz over in Germany along with Dariusz Michaelwski but nowadays, who are the peoples champions of today?

Is the big 4 Oscar de la Hoya, Wladimir Klitschko, Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton or are there more? definitely imo seem to be less than before

Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather (Half of them aren't true boxing fans) and yeah.. probably Wladimir Klitschko.. I believe he's really popular over in Europe.. That's all I really see with the biggest fan bases, as you said basically..

Wlad and Hatton are the two big ones in Europe with Oscar and Pac having the other two big bases. Other than that, Cotto has a nice base in the NYC area, Kelly has a nice base in Ohio and the midwest, Mayweather has a decent number of fans sprinkled around the country, and Calzaghe and Khan have decent followings in the UK with Khan definitely on the way up.

Yea there's allot of boxers with good fanbase's imo.....Klitschko, De La Hoya, Hatton, JC, Pac man, Pavlik (got very nice fans i hear, very kind, so Glen McCrory says :)), Cotto, Khan.

Tho Hatton's fans the most dedicated, no fighter in the world woulda taken the amount of fans to vegas that he did for the FM fight. And the crowd travelling to the Urango, Castillo and Collazo fights were in there thousands too.

being in europe i do not know the exposure that american boxers get in the usa media and viewing figures from tv to put it in context with the continent of europe.

i also do not know mexican tv numbers but if it is on free to air tv in mexico , i would imagine barrera/morrales/ect ect would have been watched in there millions.

to give a european perspective .

klitchko will get packed houses in europe and 10 million on german tv alone, add east european tv to that figure as well and you must get 20 million plus.

amir khan for an example gets 6 million viewers per fight on average in the uk.

calzaghe has a big crowd pulling abilty , but is hardly seen on british tv or papers until a fight.

khan gets more tv and newspaper column inches.

Lukas Konecny can fill any arena in his native czech republic, and so can the Klitschko brothers in their native Ukraine.
Zsolt Erdei is a big draw his native Hungary.
