    Eder Jofre’s comeback. He was 33, had been out three years and went 25-0, was undersized at featherweight but won the lineal title against Legra. Wins against Saldivar, Gomez, Lopez, Crawford, Elias, Stevens etc;

    It absolutely qualifies him.

    And his grace to not proceed to annihilate that next generation of light heavies but to merely retire and let them have their day makes his second act the greatest.

    Gianfranco Rosi took six years off, returned at 46, and collected the impressive straps of the IBF Inter-Continental Middle and IIBF Mediterranean championships, fighting his last bout at almost 50.

    Scott was one of the most vicious and determined body punchers I’ve ever seen. That line in one of the Rocky movies — ‘punch his lungs out’ — applies to what he did to Eddie Mustafa.

    I don’t know if he’s still around but the warden at Rahway at the time, who started the boxing vocation program to train inmates in skills including not just boxing but corner work and being trainers so they could get work when they got released, used to post here a good bit. His name was Robert Hatrak but I can’t seem to put my finger on his username.

    Good call. His name alongside Big George was one of the firsts that sprung to mind when I saw this thread title.

    Foreman is the benchmark. What he did will never be seen again.

    Hate to say it but Tony Ayala Jr did okay given that he was 36 and had been away from the ring for 16 years. Came up short against decent opposition, understandably, but it was a decent run guven his age, time away and probable drug habits. Shows what could have been.

    I'd have loved Duran, in the spiteful mood he was in that night, to have been facing Ayala rather than Davey Moore.

    I think Duran would have won but it wouldnt be that easy since Ayala punched a bit harder than Moore.

    And yes, women all over would have won too including little me. LOL

    Oh not just women, Tone. Us fellas could have enjoyed that for all the same reasons.

    Not that Roberto was a saint where women were concerned but I hope that he respected them as much, or as little, as he did his fellow men.
