Holmes looked like someone had sewed a man’s head on a large gorilla’s body. He was a very imposing individual and every time I saw him he had a semi scowl on his face. He definitely didn’t look like he wanted to be bothered.
Margarito was only hated by the Mayweather brigade because he made Floyd totally lose control & freak out by merely walking up to him to ask him "why wont you fight me "? It was obvious Floyd was scared to death he was blabbering like Daffy Duck lol Cotto never mentioned anything about the beating he took from Margarito until Naz Richardson started the Plaster blocks BS. He tried to use it as an excuse for he beating he took. Once he knew Margarito's eye had been permanently damaged he thought he could make up for his QUITTING!! But Cotto couldn't even beat a Margarito who was blind in one eye from round 2 which the ref & Doctor both knew. The doc only stopped the fight when Cotto started fading fast & Margarito stood beating his chest at him Only then did that doc stop the fight, not to save Margarito's eye but to save Cotto QUITTING AGAIN!!!! Do you remember the nickname the fans gave Cotto?? Kneequel Quitto
If that’s the case, Larry needs to chill, loosen the jock strap after all these years. He’s well set, loads of $$$, just relax and enjoy himself. I know fans can be a bit intrusive, but all in all, it’s still a compliment to be approached. When Mike Tyson and Tyson Fury were in Dubai for the Tommy Fury v Jake Paul fight, it was interesting to see the fans gush over Mike while Fury was being relatively ignored - BIG Tyson didn’t look too pleased. Lol.
This was during his championship days before he lost to Spinks. I am sure he has mellowed out over the years.
I’ve shared a couple of stories about Larry Holmes — one from fairly late in his comeback tour and one from a couple years after when he boxed an exhibition. He couldn’t have been nicer, more engaging or more gregarious in those two encounters I had with him.
