    Hey Aussie ESBers!

Most of you know me, some of you don't. I've unfortunately had a busy and rough 16 months or so and my general boxing following has taken a back seat to everything else (it's why I've missed the last couple of tipping comps).

Anyway, I've had a bit more time lately and am slowly catching up.

Yesterday, I was chatting to a mate about Pac / Bradley and the whole Mayweather, Arum, Pac scenario etc and he asked me who he should watch when this saga is over. Who is going to take over and who will we be watching next.

So I started to put together a list of the fighters who are showing great promise.

Guys like Gamboa, Rigondeaux, Broner, Donaire etc came to mind and I started a bit of a list.

When I got to the middleweight contenders I saw the current situation there:

Gennady Golovkin vs Dimitri Pirog (Aug 25)
Daniel Geale vs Felix Sturm (Sep 01)
Martinez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (Sep 15)

That is a pretty exciting time for middleweight. The top 6 contenders all fighting one of the other top 6 (technically), bringing that division mighty close to having a unified champ of some kind (one of them being an Aussie).

Anyway, I thought I might create this thread so we can post some thoughts on real prospects or give people the chance to chat about their favorite divisions and why - list which fighters are looking like they'll be something special or simply highlight some of the better aspects of the overall competition that is boxing right now.

Are there any other divisions that are showing as much competitive promise as Middleweight right now?

Are there any figthers showing great promise (defeated or undefeated, who cares?!) who we should keep an eye on?

It's part "catch up on boxing for PorkChopExpress" part "let's talk about some of the things keeping us watching this sport, not just the **** that turns us off".

We're all here cuz it's the greatest sport in the world. Let's display why we think that here by talking about the best **** in it right now and the best places it seems to be going.

Or not... up to you :smoke

We'll only being on here of the last six months I dont know you but welcome back mate :good.

In terms of the middleweight division, you've hit the nail on the head. You know it wasnt that long ago people were saying it was a weak division but now it is peppered with top liners and some very capable contenders such as Qullin and the UK boys. The most refreshing part is we're actually getting the big match ups. I cant think of any other division where that is happening and is that populated with talent at the mo.

Can Geale reach the top? I have some doubts there but the main thing to me is that he wants to find out and is therefore the shining light in Aus boxing.

Otherwise in the next 12 months it will be interesting to see if Caparello, Pitt, Tomlinson and Browne can make any waves on the world stage. In the meantime, this forum will continue to be dominated by talk of our ailing HW scene in De Mori, Welliver and Leapai.
