IMO no. Good fighter but not HOF worthy. Caught Marquez at 40 as a welterweight and Pacquaio was a total gift. Not sure the rest warrants HOF consideration given some of the fighters who haven’t made it.
yeah that’s what I was kinda thinking as well. Some of his decision wins were dubious and against aged foes. He was a good fighter with a decent record but it’s hard to make a solid case for him being inducted.
I think i'm right in saying he'd have lost to Provodnikov if the referee hadn't missed the knockdown and the Marquez fight was arguable too. I scored it a draw. Hard to think of a recent fighter who has benefited more on cards than Bradley.
Canelo says hi. But yes, I agree with you here. I was always surprised the Marquez fight was painted as some masterpiece. It was a very even fight vs. a 40 year old Marquez.
There are many good fighters on the list to choose from, did Rafael say why he prefers Cotto or Bradley over Toney? I don't a think positive tests will bar Toney, from making the hall of fame someday. after all Shane Mosely got in the boxing hall of fame. The tier one picks to me are: Wlad Mayweather Ward Below them is a pretty close grouping of Cotto Toney Michalczewski Hatton Bradley Tarver If anyone has waited their turn its Michalczewski.
It used to be a 5 year wait, now it's only 3. Go figure. The modern era includes retired boxers whose last bout was no earlier than 1989 ( Used to be 1943 )
Floyd is a no-brainer. Pretty impressive that Mayweather beat four guys on that current list - Cotto, Hatton, Corrales and Hernandez ... beat four guys already in the Hall (Oscar, Shane, Marquez and Gatti) ... and even more guys he did beat will certainly be first ballot entries when they retire (like Manny and Canelo). I wonder if 'anyone' Wlad beat will get to the Hall of Fame? Rahman probably will someday. Not anytime soon, though.
Michalczewski has an interesting case. Lots of defenses and he was a lineal champ. It really is a shame he never fought Jones or even Tarver. All he really needed was a career defining win. Henry Maske is another guy that had the skill and talent to be in the hall but again, he didn't have that career defining win. Hence Virgil Hill is in and he isn't.
I think the HOF has really ****ed it up with these new timelines! You have someone like Jack 'Kid' Berg (last fight '45) in the "Modern" category - while Yoko Gushiken (first fight '74) is considered an "Oldtimer". Gushiken wasn't even born until 1955 - 10 years after Berg had his last fight! How does this make any sense?
In truth, there isn't much difference between Dariusz and Wlad. Dariusz made 23 title defenses and unified as many belts as Wlad did. But he also won titles in two divisions and beat a Hall of Famer, which Wlad did not. Neither fought the next best fighter in their division (Vitali for Wlad, Roy Jones for Dariusz). But Wlad seems to be a lock, and Dariusz doesn't. That's the difference between heavyweight and light heavyweight, I guess.
