I don't know what it is, but I seem to have trouble with wild swingers. In sparring I do well because I just pick off the shots, but I believe in a competition I would probably lose since this isn't some sort of huge tournament which means the judges suck ass. Any more pointers?
Yeah, the thing that kinda annoys me is how they might get 3 hits on me trying to throw that one. Simply because they are constantly swinging -.-
Get low, Get in tight and punish him up the middle. Most wild swingers throw side to side in a swinging motion leaving the middle quadrant wide open. The tough thing is getting in the middle of the helicopter blades.:nut
Throw punches straight down the pipe. Keep your opponent off balance by doubling and tripling up your jab. If the opponent walks through your jabs, start aiming them at his forehead or higher and throw right uppercut as he tries coming in under your high jab. If he does get in close enough to brawl with you, tie him up, and hold on until your are told to break.
i find it hard too as againstr a boxer i can anticipate shots but against a wild swinger moving my head is dangerous lol i find it easier to keep a tighter guard and move my head side to side and parry shots over my souklders
Keep chin down high hands and be flexible knees bent. Throw punches down the pipe and come off at angle and keep him turning onto shots, Use the odd uppercut and roll off to side as that will score well and also hurt your opponent and use the check hook it works so well. Basically all in all stay calm pick shots but also don't back up to far and don't run. Moving back look for counters, Don't worry about him getting near if you can counter and defend well.
I just find it harder to throw combinations since I don't want to get caught by wild shots. I know it's easier to just pick them off, but in amateurs you don't have time for that
I see what your saying, Just throw shots through the seam and keep chin down and move around then pick your moments to counter. Really if your worried about getting caught then your losing the fight anyways. You have to have a plan and execute it. I would use plenty of head movement changing the line and angle and keep him off balance.
Stick to straight punches. If you watch for wild hayemakers and spot them, you have plenty of time to avoid them with some footwork or upper body movement. Just get tight, get quite low and like db said, punish them down the middle. Don't throw to many combinations because you'll end up getting caught if you stay in the firing zone too long. Just keep on your toes, move in and out with quick, sharp crisp punches. Hell you can probably stick with your 1-2 and win the fight.
TRY to see actually getting on the inside with him. depending on what type of a wild fighter he is, instead of constanstly moving backwards, try stepping inside of his punches and eating him up w/ short explosive punches. or do that and get back out. just make sure when u leave the inside u don't come out the same u went in. if u go straight into him, then when u leave, go to one of the sides and make change his angle.
