do any of you train boxing at an mma gym? or do you box at a boxing gym? if i were to train boxing id prefer to go to a boxing gym **** learning boxing at an mma gym.
I train @ Wild Card Boxing Club when in Los Angeles which, is obviously a boxing gym. I train at Barry's Boxing Center when in Las Vegas again, boxing. However, I do the majority of my training at Xtreme Couture in Vegas, a MMA place. Ron Frazier and Gil Castillo are the boxing coaches. They are as good as any strictly boxing coaches I have came across. No, I have never said more than 10 words to Freddie Roach in my life. If your name isn't Manny Pacquiao or Amir Khan your invisible to him. Not saying Freddie is a bad guy, he is very polite and a great guy but, don't think your gonna walk into WCBC and hit mitts with Coach Roach, it don't work that way.
I would suggest learning how to box at a boxing gym though. At least in minnesota. The MMA guys really are not great boxers around here.
Place I started out at was more of an MMA gym but their boxing coach was an expert. Asbolute legend/great person aswell! :good
Most MMA guys are not known for their great boxing skills overall. If you want to learn boxing, then I would go to a boxing gym. If you want to learn how to box in an MMA environment, then you are going to want the MMA gym. Using boxing in MMA is a different skill set then boxing alone. Not better or worse, just different. In straight boxing, you don't have to worry about the shoot coming in or kicks from your opponent. This allows a different stance and strategy than when those other factors are included.
its not the gym its the trainer. If the mma gym has a good boxing coach then it shouldnt be a problem if he is happy to just teach you boxing.
