López is scoring a few jabs on the moving target. Dusmatov bouncing around, lunging in with occasional jabs or power shots. Wild spinning tie-ups when they come together in the middle of the ring. Good defense from both, missing a few sequences as they exchange combos. López is baited in by a squatting lunge-in body jab, and throws a 1-2, falling short and bopped on the head with an overhand left. Dusmatov with a shoeshine downstairs.

López jabs Dusmatov into the ropes, putting on some pressure, but is punished with a big shovel left as the Uzbek escapes with quick footwork. Dusmatov kicking his feet together in a sideways gallop, lots of directional changes, light on his toes, pot shotting. López buries a right jab in between the forearms and lays some heavy lefts on the body of Dusmatov. López catchs Dusmatov ducking in with a jab after some cheeky showboating with a HUGE left cross. Dusmatov buzzed and running. López walking him down, gets grabbed. Ref warns Dusmatov for holding behind the neck. Dusmatov gets on his bike for the last fifteen seconds. Wild left haymaker from López in pursuit doesn't reach.

Oleksandr Khyzhniak (UKR) vs. Pylyp Akilov (HUN), Men's 80kg (176.3lb, light heavyweight)

 

Brilliant game plan by the Hungarian! Realized the class, experience, and power of the dangerous Khyzhniak he spends the whole first round in a full-on sprint around the perimeter, then falling in with either cuffing right hooks or left uppercuts with his neck bent and ducking beneath Khyzhniak's return fire with head bowed and clinching.

 

Akilov on fire! Can't miss with that stylish wound-up behind-the-back right upper-hook.

 

Super tight - Khyzhniak up on two judges' cards, draw on two, and Akilov up on the fifth.

 

Ukrainian starting to get inside and bang with authority.

We're also getting chippy with some butts, and holding & hitting.

 

Dominant third round for Khyzhniak, getting in lots of thudding shots on a tiring Akilov.

Lucky shave there, even with that strong finish it could still have been an upset if the second had gone the other way on just another card or two.

Pereira scored a shutout versus Belony-Duliepre when they last met in the PanAmerican Games semifinals last October.

 

French crowd firmly behind the Haitian but the Brazilian has been walking him onto jabs while comfortably gliding around the ring.
