The IOC have painted themselves into a very dark corner here and now they have no way out.

All they can do is hope Khelif's next fight looks like a contest.

A farce at the Olympics always catches public attention. Particularly one as controversial as this.

Angela Carini had had 106 fights prior to this one and never been stopped.

It happened in Judo in Atlanta, 1996. Sure, they don´t get punched in Judo but still is as physical as it gets.

The Italians are being drama queens wrt that Algerian. She has faced plenty of other opponents recently in lead-up tournaments who haven't quit cold after 40 seconds. I'll save my sympathies for someone who goes in there & gives it their all. Not someone who quits cold after 40 seconds b/c her coaches told her she couldn't win.

Well, I'm certainly guilty of jumping to the conclusion that this might have been a trans athlete rather than a genetic situation (a la Semenya), but of course trans athletes now are a reality in sports, and that is not an inappropriate discussion. And I just think that at least when it comes to contact sports, governing organizations should take greater care. After all, they test for doping.

If this makes me sound like a mean-spirited politician in an X-Men movie, so be it....

This boxer who’s supposedly a bloke has multiple losses and an average stoppage rate. I think that Italian woman who said they had ‘never been hit that hard’ just wanted an excuse to quit

The whole situation regarding Khelif, the Algerian boxer, is a bit of a mess, regarding her gender and why the controversy.

Khelif has been boxing, as a female, on the world stage from 2018. Khelif also competed at the previous Olympic games. It wasn't until she was due to fight for a gold medal at the world championships last year, that her gender was brought up. Apparently tests were carried out that resulted in her disqualification. The IBA president stated that it was a DNA test and her chromosomes are XY. Hence the disqualification.

The Algerian boxing authority stated that in fact it wasn't a DNA test and just a hormone test that showed Khalif had higher levels of testosterone and that politics was the reason for the disqualification.

It is a bit of a nightmare. If somebody is born with female anatomy but also has male biology, what gender is that person. Can that person have a baby. If we dig up this person in a 100 years what gender would they be categorised as. It's a tough one.

To be fair to that woman, when Khelif had those loses, he wasn't in his physical prime and exceptional women can beat mediocre men.

Now he's 25 and he's sharper than ever and he is starting to show his superior physicality. I compared his earlier fights to his recent fights... he moves faster, his handspeed is better, he's sharper and he's definitely stronger. He moves and fights like a man in there, while the women are still moving like women.

If you are born with female anatomy and you are not on steroids you should be allowed to compete against women imo. Despite what the media is trying to tell you this is not the same as a trans athlete. She's not even that dominant of a boxer, Jalolov has way more god given physical advantages over his opponents than this woman does.
