Silver would mean he at minimum beats Jalolov.

Losing the QF nets him bronze.

The next session at 2pm EST doesn't have anything as appetizing as what we just saw, but a few worth tuning in for:

Oleksandr Khyzhniak (UKR) vs. Wanderley Pereira (BRA) and Arlen López Cardona (CUB) vs. Turabek Khabibullaev (UZB), Men's 80kg (176.3lb, light heavyweight) Quarterfinals, and the aforementioned Djamili-Dini Aboudou Moindze (FRA) vs. Gerlon Congo (ECU) and Davit Chaloyan (ARM) vs. Ayoub Ghadfa (ESP), Men's 92+kg Quarterfinals - but those won't be until about 3:30pm EST. (8:30pm GMT)

Jalololv landed the cleaner eye catching blows and deserved the W but he held and spoiled too much. The German in the previous bout did so too. Fire off a shot and then fall in and smother so your opponent can't get off with their own shots. I don't like that. Spoiling is unmanly. Jalolov wasn't falling in and doing that but he was holding.

I kind of want to see the pros fail. I can't remember the stats now but the pros who fought in the last Olympics generally let the pro game down and the amateurs let them know what time it was: Amateur boxing>>pro boxing

    Serious though
Aye. It’s not exactly the swift, crisp, mobile boxing I’m used to. Just tournament wide.

still not certain about the positives of no head guards. At least a new design that is a smaller, thinner helmet that covers the brow a bit more. Because that Georgian last night shouldn’t of been head butted twice and most probably not be able to compete next match.

maybe a ruling against falling in-backhand-grab. Needs to be implemented.

If there was a Comp-U-Clinch these Olympics would be in the quintuple digits already.

Both genders equally guilty. Not limited to just southpaw vs. orthodox either, but of course those match-ups are the worst offenders.

 The irony is, eve though I'm no real fan of it, we actually see a lot less holding and spoiling in women's boxing

It’s the only true way of slowing down the fight.
I don’t mind a clinch as a strategy. But right now it’s drying up time.
This isn’t like keeping the ball in the corner like in football. it’s like tugging someone’s shirt or standing over the ball for a free kick.

But this isn’t so much a “I’m not enjoying these fights so much” complaint. It’s dangerous. It’s genuinely becoming more 1 shot pot shotting because of it Leading to head clashes all across the games

Truthfully. The woman’s games has been pretty good. Mixture of styles. Much more action and technique than previous.

I haven't watched that many bouts in these games, or certainly not as many as I usually would, and I've been quite underwhelmed in general

I'm OK with no head guards but cuts will inevitably be an issue. Frazer Clark suffered cuts to both eyes in the last Olympics IIRC.

    I didn't catch the Georgian guy's fight

Definitely and in the pro game too.

OK, I don't think I've seen more than one or two of the women's bouts
