    Round 3

Jalolov is circling away, not quite on his bike, nor engaging with Torrez all that willingly, knowing the lead is his to keep secured. Jalolov putting out right jabs every few trotting steps and then lumbering in with heavy lefts that splash across the rear of Torrez's neck as he dives in to either fire combos or clinch. Torrez with an uphill climb, seems mentally up for it but the body is a bit unwilling, the fatigue setting in, and Jalolov not helping matters with strength-sapping bearhugs or headlocks on the inside. Jalolov slides his feet around to get a side-on look at Torrez and pops him with a stiff jab, left cross, and right hook, all partially scoring past Torrez's raised guard. One more clubbing left by Jalolov at close range.

    10-9 Jalolov

    30-26 Jalolov

He'll be needing a more creative nickname, though. "Big Uzbek" is the best they could do?!!? (literal translation of "Большой узбек")

Get in, LAUREN LOUISE PRICE! Class act, soaking up the moment somberly and not overdoing it to rub things in for the ladies either side of her with the lesser medals.

...and her nickname, I've just learned, is "Tigger". So fitting given that unique quirk in her style, and colors her with a dash of personality. I've become a big fanboy today. :applaudit:

I can't recall seeing anybody quite as stoked for bronze as Frazer Clarke is.

    Well that's annoying!

It said "coverage to resume shortly" for like 15 minutes, and now "coverage has concluded".

So when do they present the Val?

Whoops, either I had a dyslexic moment or the commentator did...could have sworn he said #276 before the match, but he said 267 afterward.

edit: just Googled it and there are multiple official sources claiming both numbers. Very confusing. I... don't really feel like counting them one by one to verify which is correct.

I have really enjoyed olympic boxing the past two cycles. Better fights and and more pro style scoring, and this cycle coincided with a lull in the pros. I actually agreed with the scoring more often than I have been in the pros of late. ...

Thought Jalolov and Cruz both earned their wins, but Torrez and Davis have nothing to hang their heads about. Really strong performances by the runners-up.

An incredible achievement for the tiny landmass we call Great Britain with its minuscule population

We already dominate the sport's glamour division aka Real Man Weight with an iron rod in the pros what with Tyson Fury and AJ holding all the belts and Joe Joyce holds the British, Commonwealth and I think he still holds the European too or if not he did up until very recently. However, we've also been, if not the, one of the world's most dominant forces up at Real Man Weight in the amateurs over the last 20 or so years too

Don't want to douse your parade, but feel obliged to point out that Cuba has literally just half the landmass of Great Britain and has done twice as well. :sisi1

Both nations ought to be proud.

For the U.S., however, outdone by Turkey and Brazil? Yikes. :shakehead:

Yeah I knew someone was going to bring that up . But Cuba is Cuba and besides even the stray cats and dogs on the street box over there whereas over here you could literally live a whole lifetime without ever crossing paths with someone who boxes.

But up at Real Man Weight Cuba hasn't won gold since the great Roberto Balado in 1992

Turkey and Brazil are taking over lol
