Hi, does anybody know the title of a book about a guy who started training boxing from scratch and he had no amateur fights but had one professional fight. He trained in Sheffield as far as I can remember. The book might be going on twenty years old. I can't find it when I search. Any help appreciated!!!! Thanks
Think its this one: looking for a fight https://www.amazon.co.uk/Looking-Fight-Writer-Boxing-Inside/dp/0747214395
It's strange how some fighters drop out after just one pro fight. I remember back in the 1980s there was a very good bantamweight by the name of Gary McGuinness who signed with Frank Warren and made his debut on the Andries-Sibson show at the Ally Pally in 1986 and was stopped in four rounds by Ronnie Carroll, a sharp-punching Scot destined to challenge for British, Commonwealth and European titles. Gary's destiny was less illustrious. He never fought again.
Out of curiosity I looked Ronnie Carroll up. Bantamweight from Glasgow who had 21 pro fights, winning 12 of them. Love a bit of history.
