No, this is the Jack Johnson best known for defeating Tommy Burns in Sydney in 1908 for the world heavyweight title.

Just got my hands on a sensational book, covering the early days of Australian Champions and charactors. The names are numerous covering 30+ years of the era.

A definate recommendation for anyone with genuine interest in the Oz History.
The photographs inside are second to none.... most of which have NEVER been printed.

"Heroes of the Fancy", by Arnold Thomas.. Costs $50 plus postage no doubt.

    Seriously worth every cent.

Apparently it's littered with typos and grammatical errors. Is that right?

Just a fresh plug for the Lester Ellis book 'Fighting the Demons'.

It was pretty much played out in the interview with Lester & Keiffy on DSS' radio show last night. A great read!

CHB... been looking or it at local bookshops. Will checkout Melb. Sports Book tomorrow.

Picked up GLOVES, GLORY and GOD.. Henry Armstrong, today. Cost a whopping $10 from a second hand store. Good pick up for the 1957 copy.

If anyone has any old boxing books that seem meaningless... then PM me, I'll happily trade or buy.

Has anyone read the Black Ajax by George Mcdonald Fraser RIP.

Its about the bareknuckle scrap between Tom Cribb and James Molynieux in the 1840's under the old London Prize ring rules.

An unbelievable piece of writing with comedy laced through it.

Will have to find a copy of that also. Good to see some humour thrown into a book like this... instead of the over romanced details.

    Danny's book's called: 'CLOSED FISTS‚ OPEN HEART'

Read it the first time in 3 or 4 days, and it's excellent. Just picked it up at the weekend for a second reading.
