Partially in agreement. Saw the doco first too, but still a good read.

The Ballard of Les Darcy was it a good read?

Picked it up yesterday at a local secondhand bookshop.

Read it Mel.. nothing new in regards to 'indepth' details.

Well worth a read none the less. There's a couple on par with it and a few that create a better understanding of his life by further study.

Was that the one by Peter Fitzsimons?

I've had a few on Darcy over the years but seemd to have lost them somewhere.

Thats the one by Fitzsimmons. Said I'd send a copy of the 'Home before Dark' to ya. Will send a copy of 'Ballad...' also.

Here's one to keep an eye out for later in the year:

BARRY MICHAEL is apparently planning a book which might be on the shelf by the end of the year.

Eddie McGuire who currently does boxing sessions with Michael, might have something to do the book idea. There’s also a whisper about a movie, or similar.

Michael’s long and successful career, spanning the early 70’s to the late 80’s, certainly includes some potentially juicy material. His version of what happened at the nightclub years ago with Alphonse Gangitano would make for good reading. The Lester Ellis world title fight, it’s lead-up and aftermath, could also fill a chapter.

Then there’s some of his epic wars with the likes of Frankie Ropis, ‘Earthquake’ Carter etc.

Before anybody starts with the Barry’s-a-biased-commentator stuff, the book would surely focus on Michael-the-Aussie-and-World Champ, not the Michael who in retirement seems a bit too close to the Mundine camp.

One to watch out for IMO.

That leaves us with three books to look forward too over the next 12 months.

    Leo Berry
    Barry Michael
    Dave Russell

    Definately must-haves for Aussie fans.

    Dave Russell as well!

Perhaps the title of Dave's book ought to be 'Whatever happened to Dave Russell' cause I certainly couldn't tell you. But geez, we used to love watching him slug it out.

Yeah mate, and a good read it is. I actually picked it up a 2nd time a few months later.

You've fought in the tent yourself OM. What was it like just jumping in there knowing nothing about your opponent etc.

The 'chosen' title is very appropriate to Dave fighting nature. The author is still trying to contact Kenny Carter, Paul Gatti (from S.A) and Jeff Fenech for interviews and memories from these guys.

Old Man, perhaps your mate 'Foxy', in S.A, could help trace Paul Gatti?? Gatti sparred Dave Russell prior to the Johnny Nelson bout.

    Your help would be great.
