Teddy Atlas's book is classic & i really enjoyed it.
How much of it thats true tho, is up to an individuals opinion.

The part against the triads is particularly awesome reading.

I've got a couple by Thomas Hauser, anything by him I highly recommend.

He wrote the best biography on Ali, 'Muhammed Ali: His Life and Times'

But even better are the collections of his writing on boxing released every year.

I have two, 'I don't believe it but its true' has Don King on the cover.

'Chaos Corruption Courage and Glory' has B Hop on the cover. Both of these are great, heaps of articles looking back over the events, fights, fighters and behind the scenes happenings of the year. Others of his I'm after are 'A year at the fights', 'Brutal Artistry' and 'The View from Ringside'.

Hauser has won a Pulitzer prize for a non-boxing novel so you know hes a very good writer.

Also another intertwining sports and politics in the Apartheid era is 'Dancing Shoes is Dead' by Gavin Evans, The Fists UK correspondent. he writes about his time in South Africa during the apartheid regime and the trials & tribulations of life and boxing during this time. Great read.

I have quite a few more in my bookcase but the ones above are the standouts. Robert Dranes 'Fighters by Trade' was ok, good to pick up and read a chapter here and there.
