What a sad ending to a inspiring stroy...

I'm still in the throws of reading the Les Darcy book, awesome aussie boxing legend.

Do we have a successful boxer that still lives and healthy and wealthy life today?

Depends on what you call successful??? If contenders are worthy of mention, we have countless. Paul Ferreri is a fine example.. Not sure of his personal wealth, but wealth can be messure by a good life. Ferreri is living well, and stilll trains kids.

Barry Michael lives a good life.

Charkey Ramon is reportedly a millionaire... through demolishion.

Vic Patrick was very wealthy... and his belt, being formerly that of Bob Fitzsimmons is literally priceless to the enthusiast.... sadly, old Vic has departed us.

Fenech and Tszyu are living on easy street.

Plenty others are living very well...

Mate, to be honest, Im not 100% sure what else he does, outside of personal training, and training young guys. I will be paying him a visit shortly, as he is only 20 mins from myself, just to 'chew the cudd'. He does live in Melbourne, yes...

Will get back to you.... Cheers.

I really enjoyed Lester's book , cant beleive he fought Mandy after a six pack, I mean he didnt go real good, but still half pissed going in? I know it happens but wtf?

Loved how when he was first pro and he would win and everyone would want to celebrate and party "I dont want to celebrate, Im fit, Im ready, Im a fighter get me a fight." Sounded like an animal.

On a side note, after reading about Flamengo's Griffo tale, I had a mate who went and watched the Hatton Mallignaggi fight in Vegas, he reckons Hatton was out on the **** hard for a 3 day bender in the week leading up to fight. He apparently even hit someone and had a couple of scuffles.

My mate reckons Pac man knocks him out, but it got me thinking, I thought Hatton looked good last time out- Imagine if he was off the ****!

Texan Joe.... Lester had a shocking battle with booze... and other things.

I was at the Fogas/Ellis fight..... and become shocked a week later when told he drank a dozen cans the night before..

He's a very nice bloke, with a sad story to take on board... Thank ****!!!!!, he didn't manage to suicide... or harm himself more than he did.

Others might sniff at the mention of Lester... yet, the same people should view his bout with Dale Artango.. and consider the equiptment Lester had, even as a kid... The punishing Sequenan fight is another shocker to watch... The punishment dished out was incredible...

Lester deserves 'fairer' recognision... He was a tough bloke.

It was an interesting night mate.. several heklers in the crowd continued to call Ellis a 'scab'... due to him crossing Union lines when strikes were abundant in Melboure...

From memory, Cliff Samardin made his pro. debut that night?? with Danny Daniels... might have been Rohan Tonkins???

Kenny Carter recieved similar abuse, for no particular reason and let people know his feelings.
Funny guy Kenny, and a top guy. I was fortunate to be with him when he belted the **** out of Liegh Thomas (Scott Brouwers trainer).. at the Croydon Hotel....

Also the last time I saw Reg Undy at a fight promotion.

It wasn't Samardins debut, his 6th pro fight, also significant because I know footage of it exists as it was later screened on Nines 'Wide World of Sport'. From memory was the second live card I ever attended, the first being Scotty Brouwer v Tom Hanks.
