I'm a college student, been training for a few months. Never was planning on going pro or anything but was looking foreward to some amateur bouts. Not anymore.

Friday night I was walking home from a bar, got into a stupid argument with some idiot and his friend cheap-shots me. BOOM. One punch and he fractured the three bones that support the cheekbone. Underwent facial reconstructive surgery yesterday. Incisions through my eyelids and the inside of my mouth. Titanium plates, screws, and wires holding everything together.

I'm not looking for pity. I'm telling my story so hopefully some might learn from it and not make the same mistake I did. Just walk away. It's not worth it. There are always gonna be tough guys talking ****, and chances are you can take them, but on the street there are so many unknowns, so many things you can't account for. Now I'm left here waiting for the swelling to go down so I can find out if I still look somthing like I did a week ago, not to mention not being able to box anymore.

    Just walk away.

    Thanks for listening.

Great post buddy, sorry to hear about your misfortune. I got into some bad fights before where I lost a tooth, been knocked out cold, and my face black and blue for weeks, but I'am lucky not to have experienced what you had. Fighting can not only get you messed up physically, but it can get you in trouble financially as well.

I hope everything works out for you, what happend to the guy? Are considering pressing charges or are just going to get him at a later date, after you heal up?

This does not mean your career is over. It means you have to be smarter at your training program. First, do not spar for a few months.... Do really hard conditioning to keep body in boxing shape. Next when you spar in the gym buy this face guard. This will protect your new hardware. If you don't feel comfortable getting hit in the fact then you can always switch to ground fighting.
